Urpeko Ondarea – Archéologie Maritime Basque, est une association régie par la loi du 1er juillet 1901 et le décret du 16 août 1901.
Elle est au départ un projet qui voit le jour en 2015 au sein de l’association ITSAS BEGIA (Ciboure) avec la création de la section « archéologie sous-marine ». Elle voit le jour en tant qu’association à part entière le 2 avril 2021.
Ses fondateurs sont David Alonso Vega, Damien Galarraga, Thierry Darnis, Romain Meynier et Aines Arizmendi.
L’ association a pour objet le développement de la recherche en archéologie maritime en Pays Basque et la mise en valeur de son patrimoine culturel subaquatique par sa conservation et la sensibilisation du public.
Il se décline en 4 axes / actions identifiées, sur la zone d’intervention du Pays Basque :
– développer la recherche archéologique sous-marine
– fédérer et structurer un territoire autour de son histoire maritime et son patrimoine culturel immergé
– sensibiliser et œuvrer à la considération de ce patrimoine par les acteurs de la mer
– transmettre et porter à la connaissance du grand public ce patrimoine commun

Urpeko Ondarea – Basque Maritime Archaeology is a non-profit organisation governed by the Act of 1 July 1901 and the Decree of 16 August 1901.
Its purpose is to promote research in maritime archaeology in the Basque Country and to showcase its underwater cultural heritage through conservation and public awareness-raising.
This is divided into four identified areas of focus within the Basque Country:
– developing underwater archaeological research
– uniting and structuring the region around its maritime history and submerged cultural heritage
– raising awareness and working to ensure this heritage is valued by those involved in maritime activities
– sharing and bringing this shared heritage to the attention of the general public
